The name "Oak Forest" was probably derived from the fact that the area had lots of oak trees and forest preserves. By 1947 it was incorporated as a village, and in 1971 it was incorporated as the City of Oak Forest. Modern day Oak Forest has beautiful homes, scenic parks, and a recycling program for residents to keep a "green" friendly appearance. Oak Forest also has a great educational system with several high schools and even colleges for those seeking a higher level of education.
