Chicago Heights was settled in 1833 by a European settler known by the name of Absalom Wells. He initially constructed a log cabin but then decided to relocate a bit further westward where modern day Chicago Road is now located. The first school came about in the year 1836. This took place after a large Irish settlement came into the area a year before. A railroad came through the area by 1853, and the village had its name changed to Bloom. The name was then changed again to Chicago Heights in 1892 and finally became incorporated. At first the village was small with only about 20 factories, but eventually the region started to grow. In 1900, the area was primarily settled by Germans, but Chicago Heights became a melting pot of cultural diversity over the years, and this is reflected in modern day neighborhoods all throughout Chicago Heights. The city of Chicago Heights has a dozen schools and a large student population. The area still maintains a lot of its historic scenery and has a good police force to keep crime in check, along with numerous community activities to keep the locals and visitors entertained. The melting pot of ethnic races makes Chicago Heights an interesting place to live, and your family will learn to grow and adore this Illinois city and all it has to offer when you settle down in this area.
